Montreal Biodome (2/4)

The big birds and animals are what most people notice at the Biodome, but it's actually teeming with small songbirds too--especially in the tropical exhibit. Most of them stay in the canopy and are hard to see. But this Green Honeycreeper was the star of the day. He perched in plain view very close to me.

So, if you see a bird in a biodome (like Montreal) or a zoo, does it count as a sighting from a bird-watcher's perspective? Does it go on your list?

Good question. No, domestic and captive birds are not listable--that's considered cheating ;-) We don't usually list escapes either, if we know they're escapes. For instance, the cockatoo that showed up at Andrew Haydon Park last year.

However, birds whose ancestors were domestic or captive, but who have since established a self-supporting wild population, are listable.

I thought it was probably cheating. :)

I showed your website to a coworker today, she was looking for good pictures of bugs...she thought you were just as awesome as we do :) I said that if she wanted to comment on your photos, she could find you here. She's going to use some of your wall papers.

PS - that bird is just...wow :)

*hugs*
