Far left: Herring Gull. Next left: mature Glaucous Gull. The white, angellike bird in flight is a juvenile Glaucous Gull. The rest are Great Black-Backed Gulls. This photo was taken on the Rideau at Riverain Park, where a variety of gulls roosted in winter of 2008/09. Glaucous Gulls breed in the arctic and are a rare pleasure for Ottawa birders!
