Photographed in Kanata in the winter finch irruption of 2012-13, when a flock of these grosbeaks, as well as Bohemian Waxwings, descended on some fruit trees along Legget Drive. Unlike waxwings who swallow the whole fruit, Pine Grosbeaks are messy eaters, crushing and discarding the pulp to get at the seed within.
