This was one of many, many Rusty Blackbirds who took advantage of the flooded conditions in Ottawa in spring 2017. There were many dozens at Mud Lake foraging in places where the pond had overtaken the trail. It was by far the largest flock of this species I had ever seen in spring. Rusties are specialized for finding food in wet areas. They breed mostly in the boreal forest of northern Canada.
