Pelecinid Wasp

[Pelecinid Wasp]

Desktop wallpaper

This unique wasp, the only of its kind in North America, is scary-looking but harmless. The long abdomen is used to lay eggs, not to sting. Pelecinid wasps are also unique in that most individuals are female, and reproduce by parthenogenesis (self-cloning.)
